I think that Monumento is hands down the most musically interesting song that I've made to date. Before recording, Jarina and I had connected months prior on social media and we finally got the chance to coincide at a songwriting camp in Miami, where Monumento came out of our first session together. It's a sharp turn for me, coming from much more traditionally urban rhythms and flow to something that's soft and pleasing to what I feel like is more audiences. Additionally, just the very fact that we were able to implement obvious, clever references to Santiago/Santo Domingo in a way that's totally digestible to anyone -- even without the local context -- is very cool. I was able to witness first hand for the first time Jarina's talent in the studio with this song and it has been without a doubt the unreleased song that I play the most.

I connected with Calacote on instagram and was instantly smitten with his musical and artistic proposal. As a left of center artist myself, I related deeply to his dismissal of the stereotypical norms of “Dominicanes”, and what “Dominican” music “should” sound like and thus carving out a lane that is entirely his own. We did a session at a song camp in Miami and I was blown away by his lyrical prowess and the humor he brings to his musical persona. We are both half Dominicans who are very connected to our island, so in the session I thought it would be fun to play off of the different cities we come from: Santo Domingo and Santiago. Monument is a nostalgic 90’s track, a Romeo and Juliette type love story with a Santiaguero VS Capitaleño twist.
